Thank You Tim Russert
I like so many of you have just experienced a real loss. Friday afternoon, when Tom Brokaw interrupted golf with the news, I was absolutely stunned. I felt as if a family member or good friend who comes by every Sunday to sit in my living room and talk to me had passed. His smile and laugh were so infectious, it was hard to watch and not feel like you knew him.
I have laughed, and cheered and sat at the edge of my seat countless Sunday mornings to see and hear Mr. Russert get the facts and inform America of the issues at hand within the Beltway and beyond. He was known for being tough, but fair. Tim Russert made “Meet the Press” feel almost interactive. We did not just watch the show, we were drawn to the show.
Although, I have never had the pleasure to meet Mr. Russert, the person who sat before the camera every Sunday and some mornings on the Today Show for his commentary felt familiar. He was more than a great journalist, he was genuine. I feel that Tim Russert was one of the few people in Washington, DC that helped to not make “politics” a dirty word.
”If it’s Sunday, it’s Meet the Press”, Tim said. And in one great nod America agrees, “Yes it is Tim, yes it is”.
